Integrating Arecont Vision IP Cameras

Arecont Vision makes it easy to use our technology by integrating with more than 100 VMS partners, and growing. To help support these partners, we offer the following simple paths to integrating our products:

  • RTSP / RTP over TCP/IP
  • RTSP / RTP over UDP
  • HTTP1.0 Pull
  • HTTP1.0 Push
  • HTTP1.1 Pull
  • HTTP1.1 Push
  • PSIA
  • TFTP

Depending on the network environment and which compression method will be used, one protocol may be a better fit than another.

RTSP (REAL TIME STREAMING PROTOCOL)

RTP over TCP/IP
RTP over TCP/IP is the most popular integration method by our partners. Combining RTP with HTTP commands to change the cameras’ global settings, this method provides a simple and proven approach to integrating Arecont Vision cameras.

Positive: Great for use on busy and enterprise networks.
Limitation: Multicasting not supported.
Compression: H.264

RTP over UDP
RTP over UDP is similar to RTP over TCP/IP but with the added ability to multicast.

Positive: Multicasting
Limitation: Not recommended on slow or busy networks.
Compression: H.264

For documentation on integrating via RTSP, please download the API Documents.

HTTP (HYPERTEXT TRANSFER PROTOCOL)

HTTP1.0 Pull / HTTP1.0 Push
This is the oldest and most proven protocol in IP CCTV.

Positive: Simple and proven
Limitation: Latency between images (not in push mode)
Compression: H.264 & JPEG

HTTP1.1 Pull / HTTP1.1 Push
This protocol has removed the latency issue of HTTP1.0 but comes at the cost of not being able to tell the software when the image is complete.

Positive: No latency
Limitation: No data on size of image
Compression: H.264

DOWNLOAD:
Documentation on integrating via HTTP, please download the User's Manual and refer to page 51.

PSIA (Physical Security Interoperability Alliance) & ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum)

PSIA & ONVIF are the new security industry standards that promote plug and play interoperability with all components that are PSIA or ONVIF certified.

Positive: Easy and standardized integration
Limitation: Not all Arecont Vision specific features will be available via PSIA or ONVIF
Compression: H.264 & Motion JPEG

PSIA & ONVIF is available on model numbers AVxx15, AVxx16, AVxx25, AVx255 and D4 Series. ONVIF will be available on SurroundVideo cameras in the near future

DOWNLOAD:
Documentation for PSIA can be downloaded from PSIA's website at  http://www.psialliance.org.
Documentation for ONVIF can be downloaded from ONVIF’s website at http://www.onvif.org.

TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol)

A modified TFTP was Arecont Vision’s first protocol because it worked well in delivering high frame rate Motion JPEG video over Local Area Networks. As the market demand grows for H.264 and multi-subnet enterprise networks, the benefits of TFTP are trumped by the more network friendly RTP communication.

Positive: Fast on Local Area Networks with Motion JPEG Video
Limitation: Not good with subnets; TFTP communication is typically blocked on enterprise switches; Requires an NDA
Compression: H.264 & Motion JPEG

To receive additional information on TFTP integration, please create a ticket in Arecont Vision’s support portal (http://support.arecontvision.com).  Under “Issue Type” please select “NVR INTEGRATION”. In the “Description” section, please outline why TFTP integration would be the best method for your company. If approved, an NDA will need to be signed. This process can take a few weeks for approval.
